i do feel its the shelvey swansea effect;   a deal in place,  agent has a dawning realisation that he can get more elsewhere - that more is a step too far for our finances,  where we are having to sell to fund moves because we dont get our price money until may.
I am not advocating breaking the bank for him, because whilst he is a good player, he's not THAT good.

An old fashioned part of me wants players at Norwich because they want to be here, not just for the money.

Reading the main Everton forum and there seems to be a hell of a lot of people saying that he is crap and they are robbing us at £8m, and many others saying that they respect him for being a grafter and giving 100% but he's technically limited.

I'm now a little worried that we'd be spending £8m on some ridiculously mediocre player who is about as good as Dorrans most weeks.

Or do Everton just have higher standards because they've been spoilt with the likes of Barkley and  Lukaku in recent years?

I think they have maybe been spoiled a wee bit.

Sometimes though a player just fits a club. You look at his qualities, assess how we play, and think about how he'd fit in, and you convince yourself that he'd be the right fit.

I think he would be a good fit here, and I can't see it being about anything other than money if he would rather stay sat on the bench at Everton.

Seems to be conflicting info on the reason.

Some media sources saying Everton are stalling, others saying that Naismith himself is stalling.

My guess would be that either Everton want us to return with the same offer we made in the summer but we want to pay a little less, or that Naismith isn't keen the possibility that he could get a big wage cut in June if we don't stay up?

And that last bit would be my gripe, if it turned out to be the case.

If we have identified him as a player that we want, just pay the going rate FFS!

We do have to look at third party reasons as well sometimes. For all we know he doesn't fancy Norfolk as a place to live.

I remember we were going to push the boat out for a Liverpool striker called Alun Evans, who was missing out due to the arrival of Keegan, but he and his wife didn't fancy the area and being from Worcester, stayed in the Midlands for the rest of his career.

If it is money from our end then I have to ask when all the bull about establishing ourselves in this division will stop when we aren't prepared to pay the going rate, outrageous as that rate may be.

And if the player is holding out for too much money then he isn't realistically, at 29, thinking about his career apart from his pension. And I would rather have a hungrier, ambitious player and pay over the odds like an Austin and rely on Wes for the role planned for Naismith,

Charlie Wyett has just tweeted that unless Naismith gets a substantial wage offer, he will be staying at Everton till the summer.

Take from that what you will.....

Good luck to him and Everton. He isn't the man for us then. I don't blame any player looking for financial security. So it could well be a move on his behalf to find out what Martinez really wants from him. He knows coming to us could well involve a relegation fight. If he hasn't got the bottle for that then we don't need him.

But I do question the negotiations. Surely we knew from the start what his wages were and what he would probably be wanting. If we aren't prepared to break the structure at the club then why are we bothering to sign these players in the first place. It's like going to a restaurant and only choosing a meal based on its price.

Naismith is apparently on £42k a week and has 3.5 years left on his deal.

Difficult to judge without knowing the circumstances (what we've offered him and to what degree he is willing to compromise), but can see why the club would want to bring that figure down.

With Matt Jarvis we had the leverage of being able to offer him the security of a longer deal because his West Ham deal was up in June 2017 and his new Norwich deal runs to June 2019, so he was probably able to take a significant pay cut but still benefit financially.

Jarvis and Naismith are the same age. We're hardly going to go and offer Naismith a 5 year deal so can't apply the same principle.

I'd like to think it is a case of both parties not quite being able to meet in the middle rather than one of either us or Naismith being completely unreasonable.

I just hope we have a Plan B, and that our Plan C this time is better than Elmander.

Lets just go and get Snodgrass back from Hull and play him through the middle, should never have sold the geezer.

By the way any idea what we pay for our best players per week?

If I remember right Holt, Wolf and Snoddy were near 30k?

I don't really know what our existing players are on, but if he's on 42k a week and that's substantially higher than the rest of our squad then that can create issues: Read an interesting interview with Rob Green the other day that said a lot of QPR's problems stemmed from 'wow' players being brought in on huge money and the guys who'd been there before resenting it.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. Specially if he cant get in the starting eleven anywhere near 40k sounds quite high if our current wages for most starters are still under 30k.

That sort of wage is a particular issue if its not accompanied with the big relegation decrease clause that every other player at the club has (I think it may be as big as 40%?).

Especially as his contract length would likely be 3.5 years which would overshoot the larger parachute payment period if we went down this year(first two seasons in Championship).

Being stuck with a couple of players on huge contracts has left relegated clubs close to administration in recent years, Birmingham were stuck with Zigic on £50k a week and I think Hull were stuck with Bullard on £40k+.

We really do need to look at paying some players £40k, £50k, £60k if we want to progress as a club, but we also need to protect ourselves against the consequences if we were relegated.

I've got a feeling that it is the relegation wage decrease which would be causing the problem here, its not something that Naismith will have had to contemplate at Everton.

I suspect a range of somewhere around £20k to £30k a week is typical for senior players, with bonuses for staying up (in our last year in this league it was said that we only made a £6m profit because our relegation meant we didn't have to pay out bonuses).

But they get a huge pay cut after relegation, which went back up after promotion, I think it was 30% or 40% pay cut? McNally stated the figure once I think.

Its difficult to imagine any of our players being on much more than £30k, the only one I could invisage being on a fair bit more is Bassong because of his prior clubs? Possibly Ruddy who got his 4 year deal just after breaking into the England squad? (Just realised that I'm probably plagiarizing Football Manager 2016 with those two suggestions).

Utterly clueless really, but we don't have any big name players like Defoe. Would be nice if we could break the bank one day and sign a big name like a Cambiasso or Berbatov, but more feasible when players will take a 1 year deal, bit different when you're handing somebody a 3.5 year deal.

Bendtner is interesting story. Always destined to be something, but his attitude ruined it all. Fightinng and drinking public, very egoistic comments front of media and always whining if dropped on the bench. Now he is at Wolfsburg and almost with 1 per game goal ratio can't break in to the team which really dont even have that much competition for their single striker role.

You never know what you get with him. His wages are around 25k euros per week so no problem there, but really he would be that high risk, high reward player. As you can see not very big fan of him, but at the end he can be the guy who scores for fun for your team.

Barca is looking premiership level loan club for Sandro Ramirez. Very talented youngster who played striker for Barca B, but in first team mostly played as a winger. Likes to runs channels, has speed and quite good shot. AS tells that he could be bought with buy back clause so loan isn't only option. Hopefuly we are aware of this kind of possibility and use it if player type is suitable, could be low risk option to make sure we have enough strikers and same time he would cover our both wings. Shouldn't be on high wages as it is his first professional contract

Noticed just that Skysports also reports about this. In same article Ciro Immobile and Lucas Perez are mentioned also possibly looking for new club. First is probably quite high wages (reportedly 45k) and latter could be costly (probably no more than Naismith, but that is quite a lot from a player that haven't played in this league) Well latter is more like secondary striker, but has played as a pure centre forward and Deportivo has money issues so they are looking for money and their players are not in a high wages.

Anyway if Naismith wont go trough as it seems now there is decent names on the market

My understanding,  based on no facts whatsoever, is that we do have some players earning around £40k pw
