Quality not quantity

I do agree though that it is getting quieter, but when you're a new forum and you don't have too many members, after the initial honeymoon period it's inevitable that there's going to be a bit of a drop. We just need a few more members that's all, which will come over time.

Can I just say as well, this is nothing against the admin on here or anything like that, but I do think match threads need to be started slightly earlier, preferably the day after a game. The match threads are always going to one of, if not the biggest talking points as a Norwich fan, everyone wants to give their opinion. The later the match thread is set up the less posters get a chance to give their opinion, meaning less people get an opportunity to challenge opinion etc. The middlesbrough match thread for example wasn't set up until the day of the game, and it was very quiet for a match thread during an away game. As I said, not having a go at all, just a suggestion.

Yes I definitely need to sort out the match threads. In fact, just had a eureka moment.... I can actually 'schedule' posts, so I could just go and create the next 10 match threads in one session, and then the system automatically posts them at the specified time. 

I'm a bit short on time, but could be working much smarter, will definitely get to work on scheduling a load of match threads. Could also schedule 'score prediction' threads for each game, although I won't pin those.

I've noticed on other forums teams have a 'guess the attendance' thread, but that will soon get boring when you are just picking a number between 26000 and 26999 every week. On the Middlesbrough forum their guesses for our game ranged from between 14000 and 19000, shows how tough it can be for some clubs to get bums on seats in a midweek game in the winter.

I read the Pinkun but never post on it life is to short in fact I rarely post on line but do like to read the views of other canaries. Just because fans don't post doesn't mean to say they are not interested in the debate

Did notice someone had a pop at this forum today on the pinkun which is a bit out of order was under the wAccoe/twtd one.

I don't really understand the animosity and would think that even those who don't like this place would see at least a little benefit in having a backup, should some Archant executive one day decide to trim down their operations, or indeed to just lose the forum. I had a butchers on the Archant website to look through their vast portfolio of local and national websites and print magazines, and could find only two forums - the Pink'un and the Green'un (Ipswich equivalent, but not used). Forums are no longer in vogue, and are famously troublesome (particularly the fear of libelous comments) and unprofitable. 

May explain why the Pink'un webmaster has had a hard time getting a forum upgrade sorted, Archant just aren't interested in forums! If that ever did happen (and I hope it doesn't, but it could) then I'm sure they would soon be posting on here. There aren't many clubs who have a forum run by their local newspaper, and clubs themselves stopped bothering with them years ago.

Can't be bothered to look but there is one man who keeps talking about George Orwell who has a chip on his shoulder because I gave him a 7 day suspension for sharing a private message on a public forum, and then there is Waveney Canary who lasted one week here. Like somebody else said, quality over quantity!

Pin is now firmly planted. I live in Redruth. Red meaning River and Ruth meaning Red!!!???? The Cornish and Irish come from the same seed.

Unfortunately Mr Fever doesn't say what part of the Duchy he resides in. Mr Brompton is actually a Janner, residing across the Tamar River in Plymouth.

My pin is planted in Wadebridge, EatonBoy, having supported City since 1972, when I first moved there. My wife is Cornish, which is how I ended up down here. As an aside, I was told that 'ruth' meant ford in Cornish and that the red referred to the colour of the water caused by mineral deposits thus 'red-ford'.

I like Wadebridge. My wife and I are both keen runners and love the Camel trail especially Wadebridge to Padstow. Left Norwich for NZ in 1970 and been here since 1980. I came because of work when I returned and I am now retired.

When things are going well message boards are quiet. When things are hopeless, message boards are very busy with various campaigns and accusations. When things are just a bit depressing people tend to tune out. Ill admit to having drifted away from football this last month. Some of that is a little bit of apathy. A lot of it is that fact that sometimes there arent streams. I cant watch mid-week games anyway as other half would object. If there is no stream I cant watch the game therefore cannot post about it.

Its no surprise that after a drubbing at Boro people wanted to post.

Pinkun was busier, but a lot of that was toss. With quality control so too goes quantity. People want to behave better here, so are perhaps a bit more reserved about what they post, rather than simply smearing their brain all over the keyboard at the drop of a hat. I do have to admit to having a bit of nostalgia over reading the squabbles you'd get on the pinkun (though most of it was soul destroying). There was at least always something to read. Funnily enough though I've not missed it enough to go back.

Since I joined this forum I havent looked at the Pinkun once. It would be nice if more of the regular posters over there had jumped ship though

I've been crazy busy over the last few weeks, but will endeavour to become more frequent again where time permits. Sorry to hear that traffic is declining; have you thought about doing radio interviews with Radio Norfolk, Radio Norwich or Future? They're all independent of Archant so may give some air time – I found it very easy to get on when I was helping to promote a charity festival earlier in the year.

I read, and occasionally post an answer, on the Pinkun Board. They seem to be having fairly quiet periods as well, if you take away immediately before and after a game. Sometimes there i inly one person visiting, or even none.

I am not sure why this should be so. There are no possibilities for transfer, and so less excitement. We are not setting the world alight at the moment. The result is that if you discount the Adams critics, there a relatively few postings and little of note to post on.

I much prefer this site, which is much better designed and operates very well and quickly. I hope that we can collectively find things of interest to post, in order to drag other readers in.

Hi there guys, I'm just new to this place so I hope I can contribute in some way to what seems a dying site from what I hear? I've been a lurker for a while but made my account a couple of days ago!

I'm happy with the quality of discussion on here as it really does make a difference from some of the football forums I visit where cheap jibes are all the thing. I don't agree with everything but you seem a mature bunch compared to some. I like that this is a club forum for Norwich fans too. As someone said before - quality over quantity.

What I do think is that the quality of posting, with all the unease, unhappiness and general despondency, has been very very high indeed with lots of respect and insight.

Been very busy recently, and as you say the quality of posting on the whole is very good.

Unfortunately though there's an international break now, so it'll probably quiet down a bit.

As someone who usually only accesses this site through the mobile option, one comment I would make is seeing the same 3 or 4 posts pinned at the top means you have to page down to see fresh content. This can be a tad tedious.

At some stage in the hopefully not too distant future it will become a lot easier to use this site on smartphones and tablets. IP 4.0 is in beta stage at the moment, won't be available to us until it is stable. This is why I never bothered to style the mobile skin, it will become redundant. 

On the topic of this thread, this screenshot shows how quiet it got on here recently! 



That shows the number of 'replies' per day. As you can see, it has picked up again now.
