I can just see the headlines now as Norwich City are gunned down by Chris Hughton's free-scoring Fulham side. In the face of Fulham's no nonsense, in your face, relentlessly gung-ho style of attacking football, Norwich City's defence was akin to that film with Michael Caine at Rourke's Drift only without anyone actually being killed. Norwich couldn't get out of their own half as time and again Hughton's men, roared on by a crowd who had been whipped into hysteria by a Colin Calderwood pre-match motivational speech, battered the Canary defence from first minute to last with a masterclass of positive, aggressive and direct attacking play. The scorer of the sixth goal, Mark Fotheringham, who dribbled round nine Norwich players before flicking the ball over his head and into the net for a nailed-on goal of the season contender, spoke afterwards about the changes at the club.
"Och, wee Chris and the lads have been great," said the largely useless journeyman midfielder. "Our confidence is at an all time high, we're encouraged to play with freedom and flair and we don't worry about conceding goals because we'll score more than the other team so, frankly, we don't give a toss. Wee Caldy (Calderwood), he's a proper laugh in training and all, last week he dressed up a blow-up doll as Mohammed Al-Fayed."
The interview was then abandoned because of unicorns on the pitch.
