Hopefully the cup game will have given Farke a few thoughts on selection!

Not sure what to expect, Sheffield United haven't got started yet and that lad from Liverpool hasn't done much.
We need a win but so do they, draw I should think.

Gonna be a tough game, even though they've started pretty poorly. Have to say I'd sort of love us to stick 5 at the back just to see the look on Wilder's face. Think overall though I'd go for:

Krul
Pinto Hanley Klose Stiep
Tettey Godfrey
Marshall Pukki Hernandez
Rhodes

Subs: McGovern, Zimmermann, Aarons, Thompson, Leitner, McLean, Srbeny
In all honesty the full backs are interchangable. If Farke rather Aarons and Passlack than Pinto and Stiepermann then fine. Heard Passlack did decent against Stevenage and considering his reputation you have to wonder when he's going to get his chance to show what he can do. Wouldn't be opposed to us playing 5 at the back but think the 4-2-3-1 gives us a nice balance, and Godfrey deserves a chance. Would like to see Marshall on the wing as we're wasting him at right back. Forced to leave Trybull out because of the homegrown issue.
Don't wanna sound like a broken record either but I really think we should have a homegrown goalkeeper on the bench instead of McGovern. Oxborough would be fine. It's a position that we're 99% almost certainly not going to use anyway, yet it would give us so much more flexibility in terms of naming foreign players in the squad. Even in the squad I named above we've got Passlack, Buendia and Trybull all missing out because we have no way of accommodating them.

No idea what the score will be but if we can nick a 1-0 like last year I'd be over the moon. OTBC.

Tettey and Trybull should be first names on the list (my opinion, which happens to be correct) followed by Onel.
Any others should be fitted round.
If the home grown rule gets broken, do you just get silly fine? Not going to take points off are they?

Just seen a tweet suggesting that the bug has been at work around the SUFC squad.
Not sure how factual it is.

Never going to Brammall Lane again after last season, will just hope that Huddersfield get relegated instead to give me an alternative local fixture.

you mean you don't like going to games and getting punched because your team kicked the ball in a net more times than the local team, can't imagine why that would put anyone off

Also the pathetic labeling of the game as 'low risk' and therefore about 3 police officers in total in and around the ground, despite it being Brammall Lane which I lived next door to for a year... don't think there was a single home fixture during that year without violence that I could see through my kitchen window.

If people tell me that there is a decent police presence this year I might change my stance for the future.

South Yorkshire police have never been good at doing football have they

McLean out injured, Pinto and Cantwell ill and also won't travel. Stiepermann available but probably won't start. Jamal Lewis will also travel.

Would like to see Passlack and Aarons given a chance at full back. Marshall you can see is a good player but is a clearly too attack minded to play in defence, and the idea of Husband playing again gives me nightmares.

Farke is quoted as saying
"There's a lot of bad luck for us at the moment. We didn't win our first two and we deserved to and we suffered with a few injuries against Stevenage,"
Sounds like excuses, we need to get some results after having excuses all last season.

Well Webber doesn't seem to be in any rush to extend his contract, so reckon December will be new contract or the sack depending on how things go.

The thing is.... I think the jury is still very much out on both of them, not just Farke.

Both of them away at Sheff Utd? That'd be brave. I didn't hear great things about Passlack the other night though Aarons seemed to do well enough.

Agree about Marshall, not a fullback.

As for Husband... he's probably a decent enough player but it seems unlikely he's ever going to make it here. Too lightweight.

I wonder if we might go three at the back tomorrow

Basically just replicating the tactics from Hughton's second season then dj161?

Every man behind the ball and then Pinto to do the Snodgrass job of having to try and beat a million players when we win possession to attempt to get the ball to a lone striker with no pace.

Thing is with Pinto out, Lewis and Stiepermann not able to start, it's got to be 2 of Passlack, Marshall, Aarons or Husband. Maybe Godfrey but he has no more experience of playing full back than anyone else really.

Ultimately we know what we're gonna get from Marshall and Husband at full back, which are two pretty poor defenders (perhaps harsh on Marshall as he's only played 2 games). But considering Passlack was bought in to be first choice right back, and Aarons has shown a lot of promise (albeit in cup games and preseason) I think it's more than worth giving them a shot. It is a gamble of course. I also think from what we've seen, particularly on the opening day, Marshall is very good going forward, so we're almost limiting our attacking play by not having him as an attacking option.

That said, Farke does tend to have a habit of saying players probably won't be involved and then come kick off they're walking out with the rest of the team. Wouldn't surprise me if Lewis or Stiepermann started later. Going to be interesting to see the team tbf (as it always is with us these days).

Webber and Farke have slashed the playing budget by selling top players without getting relegated.

Can't see the board sacking them this season.
