Liverpool and Norwich fail to reach an agreement for Jamal Lewis, with the Premier League champions close to signing Konstantinos Tsimikas as cover at left-back for €13m (£11.75m) from Olympiacos. Medical expected early next week.

Jamal Lewis interest ended

Probably more to this than meets the eye, we will probably find out more in the fullness of time.

They seem to have had the other guy lined up anyway for what 1.75m more, so they don't want to pay anywhere near our price. Webber has said all along what the price is, Lewis knows that, so tough. He signed the 3 year contract. He can feel what he likes or sack his agent.

Been linked with a pair of centre backs in the last couple of days. Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea and Ben Gibson from Burnley (though Michael Bailey has said that although we did have interest in Ampadu he now looks likely to go to Fulham, as due to location and the fact they’re in the Prem that’s a more desirable deal for Chelsea). I would be very happy with Gibson though. Out of favour with Sean Dyche to the point where he’s been training with his old club Middlesbrough in the last few weeks, despite the fact he still has 2 years left on his Burnley contract. Dyche clearly wants to get rid as it just hasn’t worked out for him there. It was only a couple of seasons ago Middlesbrough reportedly turned down a £25m bid for him from Manchester City, after he was named in the England squad back in 2017. He has a lot of experience in the league, and as a left-footed centre back he gives us something we don’t have. If we can get him relatively cheap (£4-5m maybe) I’d be all over this.

Regardless of whether we get him or not, the links to him, Bennett and Mawson clearly shown that we are going after homegrown centre backs that have experience of the league, which is very promising.

Well indeed, that's the business. But if Liverpool were seriously interested (and weren't just using us to smoke out someone else) you'd be a bit gutted if you were Lewis, I imagine. Get relegated with Norwich and then miss out on joining Liverpool. How often do you see Norwich sell a player to a massive, successful club like that?

Difficult to quantify the psychological effects of that, they probably would be compounded by the past few months in lockdown and general stress everyone has been under.

How often have we, as supporters, seen our players sold on the cheap. Pleased that Webber didn't cave in. Lewis signed the contract.

I see Liverpool want £20m for midfielder Wilson..................let's offer £8m plus add ons?

I think several would say including myself, quite a few. However don't ask for examples because my memory has now failed almost completely, so I would not be able to oblige.

To be fair Bob, not for a very, very long time. You would have to go back to the likes of Bellamy and Eadie. And no one even grumbled much about Bellamy until he became much more successful.

Mine isn't that great either, if I'm honest, there very well could be. Only one that springs to mind more recently could be Surman? But he is another one that wasn't hugely valued here, but went on to bigger success. Maybe someone with a better memory than us can help us out

My memory isn’t better but I remember a few players going for record fees. I think that generally we’ve done ok when selling players

Many lads in late twenties or early teens gone after being on loan and contracts not renewed.
Lots of loans returned, some early, having not played many minutes.
Players leaving after not not impressing, or having disagreement with the manager, and being frozen out.
We haven't seen many go for big money.
