I'm not so sure it would be worth it. I don't actually know how much it costs to run something like this (I have little contact with the guy who took this over) but I assume there will be some cost incurred, which you can offset through advertising, but that only really works if the forum is busy. Also more people use Twitter now, forums really aren't that popular, in the grander scheme.

When I started it I was paying Invision for their hosted service which was proving quite expensive. I had ads then, however they didn't meet costs, far from it.

I passed it onto somebody who had purchased a commercial license to use the software as he had another couple of much larger forums (assume still does),and his own servers, so will be costing him (assuming same owner) next to nothing.

I can see he has since migrated to Xenfloro but same applies. You can either pay for it to be hosted by them, or you stump up a big chunk of change for a software license. But as he'll already be paying that for his larger forums, no additional cost for this one.

I swear we had ads on here for a while, but can't seem to see them now!

I genuinely think they couldn't care less. Forums don't make them money, sure you get a bit of dosh for clicks based on advertising, but I doubt it is much. And they have a responsibility to moderate too, I mean apart from people having silly feuds, if suddenly your forum became a hotbed for extreme views they, as a company, you could be in bother. I think they definitely closed the non football forum on that basis.
Hello everyone. I stopped getting involved on the Pinkun when they shut off the non football. As Ricardo said at the time it was simply an act of censorship. A fanbase is full of all kinds of opinion, political or otherwise and to prevent fans from voicing their own thoughts on the momentous things happening all over the world and here in the UK is pathetic. Nothing that moderation couldn't solve as many pointed out. It was a decision that I felt showed a degree of immaturity.
I agree with you Morty about your thoughts above. It shows that the Pinkun doesn't give a damn about its supporters. No message on the main site, just a reply to someone on Twitter that it's a technical issue and people are away. No doubt next week there will be a hollow apology.
Nice to see your posts again too. I used to think folk got far too carried away. You may remember me from old but maybe not.

Anyway, it's really good to see so many old posters who've moved over. Hopefully people will give the Pinkun a wide berth ahead.

For the new year here's hoping everyone has a great 2025 (and we end the season well at least).

Nice to see you old friend!!
We should reconvene in the general chit-chat here, I couldn't possibly see what could go wrong...

Talk about absolutely anything you like in there, I won't be moderating anyone, unless they are a real arsehole.

I prefer that if people have a falling out then try and sort it like adults, failing that, meet up and batter the bejasus out of each other.

Thanks Morty, I hope enough folk venture over here, the Pink-Un lost it's soul somewhat when it shut down non-football. I don't think they thought it through, and threw the baby out with the bath water.

Well it's a relief to know that it wasn't just me who was unable to access the Pinkun forum. What a way to end an era though if they have pulled the plug-very poor indeed. Mind you, as others have said, I was very disappointed when the non-football forum was closed, and the football talk has been very argumentative lately. Looking forward to posting lots of music videos ;)

Any update on the Pink Un? I can’t believe Connor et al haven’t mentioned the issue on via the website, podcast or Twitter. Unless I’ve missed it?

I saw somebody say that there is an issue, but they can't get it sorted till after the holidays. Ultimately they don't seem that arsed about the forum.

Yes that’s been evident for a while.

Weird how Connor and co never really mention it, but clearly use it to gauge supporter opinion and as research to produce their own columns and content.
