I'd probably hold out for slightly more, at least £1.5m. He's a good option at this level but is 30 years old and we could probably find a younger model somewhere, which I'm sure is one of the reasons why we're prepared to let him go.

Howson is really disappointing. Hard to know what the situation is really though. Whether he is rejecting the contract because he wants to leave, whether he's rejected the contract but is happy to stay at the club for the remainder of it, or whether he actively wants to stay but the club want to move him on so offered him a poor deal so that they could come out and say 'we've been forced to sell him because he's turned down a contract'. Either way he's one of a handful of players I'll be genuinely disappointed to lose.

Pleased with the signing of Marley Watkins, on a free transfer it was definitely worth it. Certainly indicates that Wildschut and Naismith will be off, perhaps even that we'll be looking to loan out Maddison as well rather than involve him in the first team.
