Obviously it looks on the face of it like a really bad move - one of our best players moving to a direct promotion rival for an insignificant sum. The reality is we don't actually know if it's a bad move until we've seen what we do with transfers our side.

I believe, and I can't verify this, that we actually paid about 3 million for Yanic, the rest is probably add ons linked to promotion.

Everybody knows that much more money goes on the favourites, but more individual smaller bets go on the longer odds. 

So bookies have a clear vested interest in offering short odds on some things that they don't actually believe will happen and longer odds on some thins that they secretly believe will be the true outcome.

Leave was 4/1. 

Bookies got it "wrong" apparently, according to the media. 

Actually made a f*cking fortune from all the mugs who say things like "the bookies are always right" and hand over their life savings on a so-called "dead cert". 

So from the perspective of the bookies, and their shareholders, they got it "right"... by walking away with a massive profit after having duped a load of people to whack a fortune on the favourite. 

The objective of the bookies isn't to provide an accurate prediction service to the general public, it is to persuade as many people as possible to place losing bets, a skill they have mastered over many centuries.

Gutted to see Jonny go, and like many others think that could potentially come back to bite us. Wouldn't have actually been too disheartened had he gone to Burnley where he was linked earlier in the window, or even if he went back to Leeds. However to sell to 'Boro who will be challenging for the same positions we want to challenge for seems like really poor business. £6m for a 29 year old isn't the worst deal, it's his destination that really bothers me. Ultimately though he did want to leave the club so maybe our hand was forced and we just had to try and get the best deal we could. It is a real shame though.

As for his replacement, I've said it before but I would love us to go for Danny Williams at Reading who is available on a free. Huddersfield have been linked with him to be fair, but he was immense in the play-off final and was a key player for them all season. Oliver Norwood is another option. Was brilliant for Reading for years but went to Brighton and was in and out of the side. So now they've been promoted he may be available. Aaron Tsibola maybe? Another ex-Reading player but Villa are reportedly interested to sell, and obviously we were apparently in for him last season.

Read an article as well which suggested Ryan Leonard at who won Southend's player of the season award last year and would be available for less than what we sold Dorrans for, with Sheffield United already having a bid rejected, and also a lad called Jackson Irvine, who is 24 and played for Burton last season and scored 10 goals from centre midfield, and apparently Brighton have already have a bid of £1m rejected.

Ultimately now we will be getting £6m for Howson, so you would hope that gets reinvested. Nick Mashiter as well, 'Webber's unofficial mouthpiece', said 3 days ago that Wildschut, Jarvis and McGovern have all been deemed surplus to requirements. I'd be amazed if Andreu was still here at the end of the window as well. Move all them on and this'll be out situation:

From that it's clear that if we weren't to sell anyone else that we undoubtedly need a centre back, a left back and a centre midfielder. Martin, whilst not remotely ideal, could provide cover for Pinto and Watkins could act as 3rd choice striker if we need him to. 

For me however, we definitely need to sell Naismith. The attacking midfield area is just to competitive and there's no point having one of our highest earning players who for the majority of last season didn't perform, in our squad. I would also be looking to move on Klose. Again he's probably one of our higher earners and he was far from great last season. We could still probably get £4/5m for him, and there was supposed interest from the Bundesliga earlier in the season. Add him to the combined fees we get for Howson, Dorrans, Rudd and hopefully Naismith, Wildschut, McGovern, Andreu and Jarvis, and that's around £12-15m to spend on new players, plus whatever we already have.

A left back, centre back and centre midfielder obviously has to be the priority, regardless of who we sell, so those are the areas I'd be happy with us splashing the cash in. Hopefully though we'd leave ourselves more than enough left to get another centre back to replace Klose, and a 3rd choice striker. If we still have left over or can get someone on the cheap I'd then hope we can get back-up for Pinto so we don't have to rely on Martin to cover.

Question is at this stage are still planning to move on another 5 players and bring 6 in? I don't know.

£5m overdraft to pay off remember. 

Its also going to be very difficult to find new homes for any of those players (Naismith, Wildschut, McGovern, Andreu and Jarvis). 

Players don't take pay cuts, and all are probably earning more than they are worth in the market. 

Wildschut surely has to go down as one of our worst ever bits of transfer business, he's the 21st century Dean Coney. Even if the fee was only £3.5m, he's still gash. Wigan fans were laughing at us, and then we saw why. Rivaled perhaps by RVW and Jarvis. 

About £20m spent on those three players, so we can't say we don't deserve to be in this situation. That's why we can't afford to keep Howson folks, we practically set alight to a shipping container full of bank notes. 

McGovern and Andreu out on loan perhaps, to reduce what we have to pay for them to do nothing for us, dread to think how much we are paying them both. Bear in mind that they were both probably on about a grand a week before we signed them, and that this is probably all we'd be able to recoup if we sent them back to Hamilton and Dundee for the year. We'll be paying them huge amounts of money to live hundreds of miles away and play in a different league. Although in fairness, I'd probably be happy for us to pay 125% of McGovern's wages if it meant we didn't have to see him between the sticks this season. 

Jarvis clearly isn't going to pass a medical anywhere, we're paying him until 2019. Not his fault, the whole world already knew he was crocked before we handed him his 3.5 year contract, we got exactly what we paid for. We bought an injury prone player, he delivered. Unfortunately though there isn't much demand for those in the market. 

At least Darren Anderton would pop up with the occasional worldie when he made it onto the pitch, he was particularly good at pulling one or two of those out of the bag when his contract was up for renewal  :lol: .... I looked forward to a Matt Jarvis worldie in April 2019.

Jonny Howson has left Norwich City to join Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee.

The midfielder moves on after five-and-a-half years with the Canaries, initially arriving from Leeds United in January 2011.

Howson made 188 appearances across all competitions for the Club, scoring 24 times.

In that time he helped City earn promotion to the Premier League during the 2014-15 season, being named as Player of the Season at the end of the following top-flight campaign.

On Howson’s departure, Sporting Director Stuart Webber told canaries.co.uk: "Jonny, via his agent, made it very clear during my first week in the job he didn’t want to be here and wanted to move back to the north.

"We spoke about a new contract but he was insistent. Jonny is a good guy who was great for this club but sometimes you have to accept it becomes about getting the best deal for the football club."

Everyone at Norwich City would like to thank Jonny for his time with the Club and wish him the very best for the future.

Also Snodgrass saying that Dorrans is one of the best players he has played with (even though he didn't play with him at Norwich), and Naismith saying that Dorrans is our best player and we'd have been promoted if he'd not got injured.

Presumably if Webber is lying then Howson would say so, at least via his agent, so we'll just have to put that one down to Howson wanting out. 

Even if that is possibly convenient for Webber & co. 

Can't really begrudge Dorrans his move to Ibrox either, he'll be one of the star players at his childhood club. 

I wonder whether either of them would have been so keen to move if they thought further Premier League football with us was realistic though, or to put it another way... would they be so keen to move if we were preparing for a season in the Premier League this summer?

To be fair, Butler isn't saying anything extreme, in fact he's only really saying how the majority of fans feel - sad to see one of our best players leave.
