Aye we need him for home grown quota at least. Bit of an odd one really, he just doesn't seem to fit, and we have been pretty good at getting players to fit our system. Am trying to think, and I don't think I have actually seen him play.

Ben Marshall is basically a right midfielder isn't he, with his major strength being his crossing ability.... like a pound shop David Beckham.
Would be a very good player for a team which plays a conventional 4-4-2 with a big man up top.... which is precisely how Millwall play... the shortest of their four strikers is still 6 ft (Bradshaw).... Steve Morison, Lee Gregory and Tom Elliott are all big target men who score goals with their head.
We've got McLean, Leitner and Hernandez who I think can consistently supply Rhodes, so its not like we're crying out for Marshall.
I can only think that we either made a shite full back signing, just like we did with James Husband, or we thought we'd be playing 3 centre backs and that he'd potentially make a decent wing back?
As things stand he isn't good enough at right back, and isn't the type of player who'd be a good attacking midfielder, he's just redundant.
Perhaps we have a homegrown signing lined up which will allow him to leave?
With Pinto set to leave also, it does make me wonder whether we've got another homegrown right back on the way. Passlack also seems to be one who would be a good right wing back but not full back in a back four...... on paper it would make a lot of sense for us to just buy a good homegrown right back (if such a player is out there and affordable) and then let Pinto, Passlack and Marshall go.... would make financial sense at least?

Another option we've got is to sign a homegrown number 2 who is decent with the ball at his feet and let McGovern out on loan to put himself in the shop window. That would help with the homegrown thing.

Yeah, basically in Michael Bailey's piece, he couldn't see Marshall getting a game so found it strange that Farke was keeping him here rather than loaning out or selling.

Think I've sussed Farke out a bit there though, he always says that he wants somebody to stay..... he even said that he wanted Marley Watkins to stay. Now we know that is complete BS don't we
Its good management though, because if he makes it feel like the player is making the decision to leave to get more football rather than the club telling them that they are not wanted, then if for whatever reason we get stuck with him.... and we need to use him.... then we won't get a demotivated player giving 80%.
Farke tries to make everybody feel wanted, and that's good management. He also said it about Pinto, that he's happy for him to stay, when its pretty obvious that the club would love to get half a million in return for his transfer happening 6 months earlier rather than him sitting around waiting for his bosman move and downing tools.... or going in to 50/50's half heartedly because he doesn't want an injury just before being a free agent.
Its probably the case that we'd like to get a few off the wage bill in order to bring a couple in..... and Pinto, Marshall, Matthews, Oliviera are the obvious ones. Perhaps Carlton Morris out on loan again?
I suspect Farke's real position is that he'd love a decent full back and an extra attacking midfielder to help with the promotion push and is pretty keen to see a few of those leave in this window if it helps that to happen.

It is probably the case that we wouldn't save any money sending Passlack back anyway, as its a full season loan so we're likely liable for his wages for the duration either way? So I guess he'll be our backup right back if Pinto and Marshall leave, unless we sign another.
